RABBI MEL HECHT, MHL, DD
Rabbi Mel Hecht is a Congregational Rabbi living in Las Vegas, Nevada. He has lived in Las Vegas since 1980, and is retired as the founding Rabbi of TEMPLE BETH AM in Summerlin, a suburban area in the Northwest section of Las Vegas. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Miami, Florida, Bachelor and Master of Hebrew Letters Degrees from the Hebrew Union College/Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, Ohio, and a Doctorate of Divinity Degree from the Hebrew Union College/Jewish Institute of Religion, Los Angeles Campus. As a part of his undergraduate program, he studied at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel. He served as a Race Relations Officer in the United States Army and was trained at Cape Canaveral in Florida for that position.
Rabbi and his wife, Dr. Micki D. Hecht, served as Citizen Ambassadors in the Soviet Union in 1987. At that time, they were guests of the Soviet Government for the US/USSR Peace Walk. They were also guests of the Turkish Government in 1992 for the Quincentennial (500th Anniversary) Celebration of the immigration of Spanish Jews to Turkey. They, along with their children and grandchildren have been guests of the United States Government for Presidential Inagurations and a NASA Space Launch. Rabbi Hecht was honored to deliver the Opening Invocation for the United States Senate in 1997. His is one of only a few clergy in the United States to receive a Gubernatorial Appointment. He served as the Chairman of the Board of SIIS (State Industrial Insurance System - the Nevada Workmans Comp System) for over two years. Rabbi and his wife, were invited by Mayor Jan Kasl, of Prague in the Czech Republic to celebrate the Pope's International Day of Reconciliation (March 8, 2000).
Rabbi Hecht has worked diligently to improve the Human Condition not only for Nevadans and Citizens of the United States, but for Humankind around the world!
